  • Every year, we take a trip to Huntersville, NC to spend a day at the Renaissance Festival. It's definitely an experience if you've never been. Also, if you're looking for something fun for the kids, this is a great event to take them to! There are tons and tons of vendors scattered throughout the festival. You can purchase goods such as leather bound journals, jewelry, handmade ceramics or glassware, fairy wings, hats, cloaks, candied almonds/pecans, walking sticks, marshmallow shooters, and the list goes on. As you can imagine, there are plenty of things to look at! My favorite tends to be the handmade jewelry. Additionally, there are various performances and shows going on throughout the day. They have kid friendly shows, comedy shows, singing/musical shows, etc. The bird show is worth attending as they have some really amazing birds that fly over the crowds. The most popular and most crowded show tends to be the jousting matches. Those are really fun, too! You'll just want to get there a few minutes ahead of the scheduled time to grab a seat. It fills up fast. If you're hungry, there are numerous food vendors. They have bread bowls with beef stew, meatball, or broccoli and cheddar filling, sandwiches, baked potatoes, turkey legs (!), and many more options. The prices for food tend to be in the range of $5-$10 per person. Craving a beer? They have that, too! There are plenty of beer vendors throughout the festival. Mainly on tap are brews from Foothills; however, they do have other options available. I typically go with the Foothills Black IPA. I've also seen vendors with medieval margaritas and mimosas! The volunteers and staff dress up, interact with the crowds, and make it a lot of fun. We always have a good time at the festival. It has become an annual tradition to go every October/November.
