| - I have dined at Zulu for my third and final time. The first two visits- once for lunch, once for breakfast, were fine. Service was attentive and had good speed and the food was pretty good. The last visit, the food was just as good, but the service was terrible and extremely slow- my visit lasted nearly 2 hours (I hoped to be back at the office after only an hour)
The food is very good. I've tried the BLT- excellent, their omelettes- above average, the Cuban sandwich- very tasty. Basic coffee can use some improvement especially since they have "caffe" in the name, never tried any specialty coffee drinks.
Service is what kills it for me. My last experience began by us walking into the restaurant- half filled with a lunch crowd. The sign at the unmanned host station read "Please wait to be seated" so we waited. An employee acknowledged us but was too busy to seat us apparently, same with another employee and after standing around for about 3-4 minutes while staring at empty tables, we were seated. Skip the wait to be seated game, customers are smart enough to see empty tables and figure out where to sit and not to sit.
After we were seated, it took about 15 minutes for them to even acknowledge that we might want to order. We ordered a couple of sandwiches and the house made potato chips. Then waited. And waited. And waited.
Keep in mind, the dining area was maybe half full. The kitchen was staffed. What's taking so long?
Those chips I ordered might be tasty at this point. Where could they be?
Finally, 30 plus minutes after we ordered our two sandwiches, they came. No chips though and one order was missing the fries. We requested the fries, which surprisingly came out maybe 4 minutes later.
The food was good, no complaints there.
Then came time to get the bill. We had finished our sandwiches and about 15 minutes later, we finally had to ask for it. Another several minutes pass and they finally bring the bill. Luckily she didn't add in the chips we ordered. Another 10 plus minutes just for them to run the credit card. What is taking so long?
To sum it up. Good food, terribly slow service. Not a great option for a lunch away from the office, so many other options out there.
