| - I feel like I need to give Aloft four stars because really, it's not as bad as everyone says it is, if you stay on certain nights (business travelers) and make note to get a room on a side facing away from the Epicentre. Many of my colleagues warned me of Aloft after they had some less than ideal stays here, but so far, my 2 night stay has not been bad at all for a "cheap hotel" (relatively, compared to the rest around here). However, am I a fan? I wouldn't call myself a "fan" of this place, but it's definitely "a-ok".
The space is modern. The room reminds me of a small dorm room, but it serves my purpose just fine. I've been so tired I just come in. shower, and go to bed. The bathroom/shower area seems fairly clean and there is plenty of hot water and water pressure. No issues here. They have bliss products, but not in individual bottles - the shampoo and body wash are in dispensers like those you would find at the gym - a little ghetto in my opinion. The bed itself kind of sucks - it reminds me of a big king-sized cot. The blanket also sucks - it's a very thin blanket.
Keyless entry did not work during my stay, but I've verified with SPG that this was an ongoing issue at many of their hotels.
The gym is empty as hell and it's nice since you get it all to yourself, at least I did. Theres a few cardio machines and a full weight rack, but as far as weight machines go - theres basically nothing. Just one piece of crap machine that you wouldn't use at a real gym. Die-hard fitness fanatics and gym rats should go elsewhere.
Everyone seems to have a noise issue when staying here. I am VERY VERY sensitive to noise (I wear earplugs to sleep every night) and it has not been an issue. I live in NYC though, so maybe I'm used to the regular city noise. I have heard no music and very, very faint bass which I think might be coming from the AC unit.
A decent hotel in the heart of Uptown Charlotte that's very convenient to lots of places, especially as a business traveler. There aren't many Starwood hotels to choose from and I haven't yet tried out the Le Meridien or Westin, but this one is not that bad if you have to end up staying here.
