| - I was hesitant to be a member of Equinox because of the hefty monthly membership fee but one will see the difference in quality between Equinox and the cheaper gyms.
The Goods:
1. Very clean and organized.
2. Great classes and instructors. I usually do not attend classes but once I have tried it, it was really fun and challenging! The instructors are also very motivating, knowledgeable, and approachable. There is a good variety of classes that suit different interests (yoga, barre, metcon, weight training, pilates, spin, etc.).
3. Bathrooms / Locker Rooms are divine. They use Kiehl products for toiletries. I never saw hair build up on the drain of the shower stalls. Towels are available inside the locker rooms, no need to get it from the front desk. You don't need to bring your own lock. And there is a steam room inside the locker room.
4. Friendly and helpful staff (front desk, maintenance, trainers, membership managers, etc.). I also like that the trainers on the floor do not bother you while you are working out and try to convince you to sign up for sessions.
5. Good number of machines, rarely need to wait to use one. Regularly wiped and cleaned by maintenance.
6. Wi-fi is available through out the gym. And there is an area where you can work / eat by the entrance.
7. Most of the gym members are nice, friendly, but keep to themselves. Not a lot of people who just hang out and chit chat.
8. Can access class schedule / member card and book spin / barre class through an app. No need to reserve a spot for all other classes. App is well made and very user friendly.
Can be improved:
1. Opening hours: Opens at 5:30AM on M-F and 7:00AM on weekends. Other gyms open at 5:00AM on M-F. Just easier to fit in a work-out in the morning if you need to be in the office early.
2. Treadmills might be a standard issue from corporate but the treadmills at my previous gym (Fitness Formula Club in Chicago) were more comfortable and seems to be of newer model.
3. There are classes at 6:30, 8:30, 9:30 AM. Would be nice to have classes at 7:30 as well.
Overall, if you go to the gym regularly, you will not regret paying that higher than average membership fee. It is a great place to work out!
