Growing up in Phoenix it was known that Town and Country Shopping Center was a swanky place. An open air mall that catered to folks from the Biltmore area; it had a lot of designer and high end clothing stores. One of the best places (now gone) was Jutenhoops which had funky toys, games, kitsch stuff and was heaven. There was also a movie Theatre there for a time - a UA if I recall. The fountain in the middle was full of koi and the stores were places out of our price range. Then the economy got bad as did Town and Country. The stores shuttered, theater gone and just a sad shell. Seeing the growth and building going on there now makes me happy because it means another piece of Phoenix history is being preserved. Now, if only we could get Jutenhoops back.
