CAESARS PALACE SWEEPSTAKES WINNER ADVENTURE #2: "CAESARS CUT"
Famous haircuts have been ranging from Farrah Fawcett's wavy, blond hair in the 1970s to Bobby Brown's Gumby of the early 1990s to the "Rachel Cut" in "Friends" of the late 1990s. The last hairstyle change I got was in 2006 in Amsterdam. During that time I asked the stylist to get a local hairstyle in Amsterdam. The haircut wasn't a spiked hair but a pointy haircut. After my vacation when I went back to work my boss noticed my new haircut. Several months later men were having the same haircut as I had. My boss commented that I started a new trend. I wasn't sure about that.
As one of the winners of the "I Am Caesar" Sweepstakes for Caesars Palace 50th Anniversary one of the perks I received was $600 credit for Qua Baths and Spa. Online I looked at the menu for Qua Baths and Spa and noticed a Men's Zone section. The price of a men's haircut is $75. I inquired the person at Caesars Entertainment who was handling my intinerary and asked if I could use apply the $75 haircut to the $600 credit. She said yes and proceeded to make an appointment for me on at 5:30 PM on my first day at Vegas. That day my flight from Oakland to Las Vegas delayed. My flight originally stated I would get to Las Vegas by 3:45 PM; I didn't get to the airport until 4:25 PM. I arrived at Caesars Palace by 5:00 PM but I didn't check in until 5:30 PM, which was my appointment for the haircut. The barbershop at Qua Baths and Spa closed at 6:00 PM. So the person coordinating my trip moved the haircut appointment to 10:00 AM the next day. The next day when I arrived at Qua Baths and Spa my haircut was moved from Qua Baths and Spa to COLOR, which is right next to Qua Baths and Spa. The receptionist at COLOR stated my stylist would be Michael. I thought it would be Michael who owned this salon. It was a different Michael. We started a rapport by talking sports as he is a Raiders fan and I am a 49ers fan.
Before getting a haircut at COLOR the last time I had a haircut was 2 1/2 months prior. I wanted to take advantage of the $75 credit. When it came to a haircut I told him the type of haircut I would like to get is someone who won the sweepstakes to stay Caesars Palace for 3 free nights. I wanted a haircut with an attitude - a Caesars attitude. If I'm going to use $75 credit for a haircut I didn't want to have the same hairstyle as I've had since 2006. He asked me how I do I normally get my haircut done. I said my haircut is usually short. Even though I gave him free reign I appreciate that he asked me how I get my haircut. In the past I never really saw the difference between a barbershop or hair salon. How different can a haircut be? At COLOR I saw the difference between a barbershop and a hair salon. The first thing was Michael washed my hair. The last time I had my hair washed at a hair salon before a haircut was in 2006 when I was at that hair salon in Amsterdam. Almost all of my haircuts in the past the barber would use an electrical hair clip. At COLOR Michael used mostly a comb and hair shears. Using a comb and hair shears show a delicate and high attention to detail of cutting hair. Also that approach is a gentler approach to cutting hair. Never at COLOR did I feel like the haircut was a hatchet job. The only time he used a hair clip was to trim my sideburns and bottom hairline edges close to my neck. After Michael shampooed my hair he asked me what I use on my hair. I responded with gel. He recommended pomade as it doesn't dry out your hair. I never knew what pomade was before. He used pomade to shape me hair. The price of a haircut at COLOR is $80. That amount for a haircut sounds like a lot, but I was using the "house" money of $600 so $80 isn't bad at all.
In 2006 my boss said I started a trend with my haircut from Amsterdam. Well in 2017 as someone who won the "I Am Caesar" Sweepstakes and stayed at Caesars Palace for 3 free nights I'll start a new trend with the "Caesars Cut".
