| - Damn. After reading some of the negative reviews, I was pretty skeptical about spending one of our evenings in Las Vegas here. But, Wing Lei did not disappoint. Is it easy on the wallet? Absolutely not. The food alone likely doesn't justify the price - but, the combination of the food, service and opulent atmosphere makes this place totally worth it.
Let's start with the restaurant. It's absolutely gorgeous. Opulent. Dim lighting with tons of creams and golds. Beautiful, without being overdone. We were lucky to get a table close to the windows, with the views of the dragon and the trees. The service was also quite good - I love the little chair for my purse. It's totally over the top and amazing.
To start, we ordered the chilled vegetable roll, the potstickers and the honey-glazed barbecue spare ribs. The chilled vegetable roll was so-so, but the potstickers and ribs were amazing. The potstickers were pan-seared on the bottom, and were served in these really cute individual baskets. The ribs were the star of the show though. These were fall off the bone, sticky, sweet, tangy, delicious ribs. I would order this to myself next time. To die for.
For entrees, we shared the mu shu pork, general tao's chicken, and yang chow fried rice. Everything was spot on. I love how the mu shu pork is served in scallion pancakes. I didn't know we could have five-star general tao's chicken, but it is possible. The chicken was incredibly tender, with super thin breading. The sauce was delicious. The dessert was disappointing though - we had the rice pudding and it wasn't very good at all. The presentation was gorgeous, but the taste just wasn't there.
I also loved how the restaurant brings a little dessert platter on the house, with tiny macarons, jellies, caramels and chocolates. The macaron was on par with the macarons in France. Very delicate, with a delicious filling. Amazing how they could fit the taste into such a small macaron. I was very impressed, but so full at this point that I couldn't try everything.
