| - As soon as we walked through the door, a salesman practically pounced on us. I had a book that showed the measurements of our bedroom, so I would know if a king bed would fit, and he grabbed it from my hands and asked me what it was. I was annoyed. While we were there, we did find a bed we liked, a very nice modern king-size. I was happy with the selection of furniture, as it seemed that they had a little bit of every style. I asked him what the price of the bed was with the 40% off, and he told me "This bed is perfect for you, and I'm gonna make sure you get it! But first, let's go look at mattresses!" It felt like he was holding the price hostage from us until he could talk us into a mattress too.
Once we got to the mattress section, we knew ALL of them were out of our price range and told him so. He simply smiled and said "Here, lay down right here. Don't pay attention to the price, just pay attention to how it feels." Umm... easy for you to say... you don't have to pay for it.
He stepped away to get the price on the bed for us, and when he returned, he advised it would be $2,500! For a bed! Not including mattress, dressers or nightstands! With the 40% off discount! WHAT?! My fiance made up a story and said that we had to leave, to which he replied "Oh no... did I scare you off?" Well DUH!
***UPDATE***
Since writing this review, my fiance and I eventually returned to Ashley Furniture for their President's Day sale.
We walked in and were approached approximately 8 to 10 times in the 30 minutes it took for us to walk around the store. It was exhausting and quite frankly, annoying. Finally we came across a wonderful dresser, two nightstands, and four dining chairs that were decently priced. We bought everything for a little over $1,000, which isn't bad at all considering the good quality.
The only downsides to our experience this trip:
1- They don't sell dining tables individually, so unfortunately if we had liked a specific table we would have had to have bought the chairs that come with it.
2- The majority of tables seat at least 6-8 people (all we needed was a simple 4-seater) and all the sectionals we could find were HUGE (sat at least 6-8 people as well). Definitely wasn't the place for a couple just starting out when it came to these two things, but the dresser and nightstands will do perfectly.
