I've had my share of ER nightmares and I've pretty much learned to avoid hospitals in Las Vegas altogether. When my wife insisted that we hit the ER for some kidney issues I've been having, I fought her tooth and nail. And lost. Fortunately, our friend Sarah D referred us to Spring Valley Hospital (first time at that facility), and from the moment we walked in the lobby, it was a vastly different experience than the ER-mill nightmare that I was anticipating. Doctors and nurses weren't yelling at each other. Nobody told me that my wife couldn't stay with me. There weren't people sleeping in the lobby. In fact, there was nobody in the lobby. My vitals were taken and we were checked in immediately. And then something crazy happened - they put me in a room! From the first person I came in contact with to the last, everyone was extremely friendly and efficient. Given my previous expectations, I would have settled for not feeling like an inconvenience. But instead, I was treated like a customer in need of help by medical staff who genuinely seemed interested in solving my problems.
