| - A few weeks ago was my very first visit to the Golden Corral buffet. The selection of the food was decent and the restaurant was clean. Some items were good, the southern cooking items: black eyed peas and greens. And, some items were not so good: the mac and cheese. I wanted some mac and cheese to go with my chicken and veggies, but I quickly noticed a pan of mac and cheese that so soupy it really should have been dumped in a double boiler pot and placed in the "soup" section of the buffet. I picked up the serving spoon, dipped into the water mac and cheese and tilted the spoon to really get a visual. The mac and cheese poured off the serving spoon with the exact consistency of water and pasta. The staff behind the glass asked, "may I help you?" I showed them the watery mess and said, "this is mac and cheese is soup." The kitchen manager then instructed the cook/helper to replace it with a fresh batch. I then saw the cook/helper take a very large, steaming hot, plastic bag that contained the macaroni and cheese they serve. So the "homemade" mac and cheese actually comes out of a heated plastic bag. She cut the bag open and poured the mixture in a tin pan. I instantly noticed THAT mac and cheese was just as soupy as the what she was replacing! Then she proceeding to replace one soupy pan of mac and cheese for another soupy pan of mac and cheese! The kitchen manager saw me see this. I said, "that pan is just as watery as THIS pan." Then the other kitchen manager explained, "we changed vendors and that's how the mac and cheese comes to us." Wow. I put some on a plate a took a photo of it. I've never seen anything like it. I can't imagine why they thought serving such slop was acceptable and that no one would notice. The food was nothing to rave about and certainly not good enough for me to become a regular diner there. The spaghetti and sauce was comparable to something you'd fine in a really bad cafeteria. Finally, if I do return (which I'm not sure I will), I certainly will steer clear of their prepacked, over cooked, watery mac and cheese.
