| - First of all, I apologize in advance for the really long review... it still took shorter to write than how long we waited in line for the food though?
So... maybe I should've known better than to visit SeafoodCitySuperMarket a day after it opened...but my grandma really wanted to go get some Filipino food and try out the newly opened store. We got there shortly around 440pm.
Lets just say waiting an HOUR just the Grilled section was not too great... I wanted some of the dishes in the Crispy section but did not have the wherewithal to wait another hour in a separate line to do so...
The flavour of the dishes (Palabok, Kare-Kare, Pork #BBQ) were delicious... but outside of the BBQ, the serving portions felt kind of a ripoff. Maybe I've gotten spoiled at SomethinSweet, or Bertos, (the now closed Oriental Market) or even FV foods...but Im used to the containers being full... of the 5 dishes we ordered that came in the S-M-L, containers, NONE were filled to the BRIM... in fact if you're lucky enough to see before they close it, you can ask them to actually put more in as the servers seemed to want to give you the containers with an inch from the top still left.
In addition, maybe its just opening or growing pains but for takeout, there were spilled liquids on the side of the containers. When my grandmother asked for it to be wiped, the cashier said that it wasn't her job and that the servers doling out the food should have been the ones to have wiped the spill off. At the other places, not only do they wipe the containers, they tend to also saran-wrap them. given, I know thats a lot of waste...but ensuring the containers would not spill or stain would have been nice.
On a separate note, I had signed up for the "Suki" membership card. The cashier stated that I needed a physical card to which I replied that the online sign up did not provide any. The cashier then asked her co-worker and the coworker stated to use my phone number. After giving my number, she prints the receipt and calls the next person up. While walking away checking the receipt, I noticed there was no membership number or points noted... I came back and asked about it to which both the cashier and her coworker just stated... " I dunno?" should be there.
I ended up speaking to one of the ladies signing people up for physical cards on the premises (Casey) I believe the lady's name was Casey. I asked about it, she verifies that I indeed did sign up for the card but she's unsure why it didnt award me the points. She promised to follow up with their IT department to see what happened [hopefully she will?] . Casey stated that the supermarket portion was not having any issues while there have been customers that have noted issues from the food portion. Considering a huge number of people were lined up for the food court, if other people have already mentioned having issues, shouldn't the cashiers have been briefed on that?
Another issue was that I requested a dessert called "Ginataan". I even asked the cashier if it was the dessert version and the lady said yes it was the dessert. Since the cashier already called up the next person, I didnt want to stop and check about the dessert after having gone back to check on the points issue... we just decided to go home. Unfortunately unless ginataan the dessert has shrimp heads .. we definitely did NOT get the dessert I had specifically asked about.
Due to the fact that it did take us an hour to line up and get the grilled food from lining up outdoors to checking out (basing an hour on the timestamps in my photos), I was out of patience and did not want to wait another hour for the crispy food or noodles.
To those hoping for Valerio's or Jollibee, neither are open yet... Jollibee is slated to open January 2018? Unsure about Valerio's.
On the upside? there were virtually no lines for the grocery portion. I cannot comment on the grocery portion as I did not get a chance to go there.
Due to Seafood City being the largest Filipino store, I will probably be back to at least check out the grocery and hopefully the lineups won't be as brutal after the novelty has faded? For now, i would not be recommending anyone visit here specifically for dine in or takeout food unless they pack boatload of patience. If you do decide you want to try different portions, bring a family member or friend and ensure that there are at least 3 of you, one for each line.
