| - The only reason I am giving this property 1 star is because it is absolutely gorgeous and the events team (lead by Julie) that worked my wedding on the day of did an amazing job- however, overall I am writing this review to warn other brides against booking this venue. Let me preface this review by saying I was by no means a bridezilla, I always say to people if working with this venue could stress me out, I cannot imagine how it would make a bride that is very fixated on her 'big day' feel.
-It took 4 contact requests before the manager Tammy actually got back to me about specifics about booking the venue, over a month- by this point we had almost booked another venue
-Upon her initial meeting with my father-in-law the manager said that the venue could not minimize the cost of booking the place but that things like the projector ($600) that were already on-site they could offer discount for however when it came time to ask about discounts on these she denied she could do this (Basically said what she could to get us to book and then didn't care)
-the communication of this venue is horrible. It would take on average a week for the manager to respond to an email. It took two weeks to book a site visit. They have hired a new Event Coordinator who is so nice but didn't have any answers to any questions. Tammy obviously did not train her. Anytime we asked a simple question (ex: how much are chair rentals?), she had to get back to us because she had to ask Tammy who would not be available for a week. Tammy once bitched me out because I emailed requesting a response to a question that was a week overdue and she said 'I am off Mondays because I work weekends'- but how am I supposed to know that?
-In February we asked for our final quote (we booked late January). We sat down with the venue in March and explained that we were new to this but explained the type of style we wanted and the type of seating that we needed. We wanted a cocktail style party but needed some seating for older guests which Tammy was aware of. However, over the next few months it would become obvious that she didn't take any notes at meetings or pay attention to past conversations. After speaking over email and phone and in person for 5 months- she came to us with a seating plan that had no chairs! She blamed us, and actually yelled during a meeting because she didn't like being criticized. I had to calm everyone down and ask us all to work together, me the bride!
-In June, we still hadn't received our final quote and Tammy said if we didn't finalize it we may not be able to secure rentals. We emailed back that week anxious to secure rentals but we did not get our final quote until a week before our wedding in August! She then told us because we finalized everything so late we could not get any additional discounts as she had initially promised (she had told me she would give us a break on linens etc). She waited 2 months to finalize our contract (even more if you consider the fact we had asked for it to be done in February) and then blamed us
-We wanted an ice cream truck on the day of and she said we could not have any outside vendors and had to use U of T's ice cream truck. We kept asking her for a quote and she kept claiming she emailed and was waiting to hear back. We asked about this in May (and a few times after) because we wanted to bring in our own but she said no, then a week before our wedding in August she emailed to say that their truck wasn't operating that year. With a week to go we couldn't get the approvals for an outside vendor.
-She stopped responding to my emails after I called her out on her lack of communication skills and refused to respond to my emails, my fiance had to email her if we had a question
-We wanted to rent kids tables and she offered us her personal tables that she had at home, I thought that was a bit unprofessional but it would keep our costs down. I think she was trying to be nice after being so rude. A week before our wedding we ask her assistant about the table and she says that Tammy said her husband sold them- she never even told us, so we had no kids tables
-Make sure you ask the venue about their staffing ratios. They claim that they have a certain ration for staffing and smallware rentals that you have to follow (though this is not in the contract) Tammy way over scheduled for ours, we accidentally found out when we asked her assistant what the ratio was (8:1) she had us at like 250 guests server ratio when the max we had or were even allowed to have was 200
-She lied about what our liqour license entitled us to, she said we couldn't have two bars. We called the LCBO and they said it was fine, then she changed her story and said U of T didn't allow 2 bars.
All in all, it was stressful dealing with the manager of this venue and she really made me sad during a time I should have been happy and excited. I would say if you choose this venue be aware of these things.
