| - I don't generally yelp a whole lot except in extreme circumstances, but I felt that this merited it. Across the board, I feel this hotel gets a bad rap. Now, I see some of the things people complain about, but I don't feel that they're the type of things that should really ding the property. I did stay here once 7 years ago back when it was a Comfort Inn and yes, some things changed (no more free breakfast, but theres a Waffle House 5 minutes away and thats always better than hotel breakfast).
We stayed in a north facing 2nd floor room. There's some minor damage to wallpaper and such, but I didn't book the Ritz-Carlton so it is what it is. Some people complain of the noise coming from 17, but if you did an ounce of research you'll know of the location. Now, yet again, this doesn't bother me. I grew up living right off one of the busiest highways in Chicago, then moved into a house immediately under an O'Hare airport flight path so the white noise is welcomed.
I did, however, witness 3 clashes with hotel staff regarding booking. All 3 were instances of booking through a 3rd party (2 hotels.com and 1 orbitz). The staff taped up disclaimers on the front door saying the third parties overbooked their hotel and that they are unable to issue refunds, that you'll be forced to contact the third party and make arrangements with them. 2 folks understood, 1 ended up needing a police escort from the building as he refused to leave until he was issued a room. My advice? Check with your third party! I did a week prior to my stay and had zero problems at check in.
Other than that, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean, and i got no whiff of any of the foul odors anyone speaks of. Literally my only complaint is the extreme sheer-ness of the room curtains. I'm a guy that likes to sleep past 10am, kinds hard with the desert sun beaming into your window.
As one of the cheapest hotels available during spring break/spring training baseball, I'd say I absolutely got my moneys worth.
