  • Well first things first, I use to be employed at the old Cleveland Aquarium on E 72nd and I've been to and attended events at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago many times so my review may be tainted by my previous experiences. The event I attended here and my first time at the Cleveland Aquarium was the; Adult Swim: Xmas Ales & Ciders Tasting that was held on November 18 2017. The event was sold out and tickets that came with 20 tasting tickets were $40 a piece so taking a date cost $80 plus parking. The vendors were all polite and professional, they had stations set up around the aquarium so as you walked thru the exhibit you could grab a small drink in a small commemorative tasting glass that came with admission. All the ciders and ales tasted OK to me, some were better than others but that's a personal choice and what tastes good to me might not to you so I won't judge the 40 or so different offerings, the same with the food and cheeses provided on your meal ticket. The Cleveland Aquarium itself is small, cramped with low ceilings not very conducive to any large event at all, I actually felt slightly embarrassed because the city of Cleveland can do much better than this, at times I felt as if I was in some fancy Aquarium store than a city attraction, the staff was great but the venue wasn't open and friendly and people congregated into the small groups they came with blocking access to the exhibit they were standing in front of but of course they had no choice, lines for the vendors at times were hard to detect because of how small the area was and the amount of people congregating there but the night wasn't a total loss, the Sting Ray touching tank was pretty cool as was the invertebrate touch tank that had an actual employee explaining the exhibit. This isn't to say there weren't other employee's stationed throughout explaining the exhibits but when you cram so many people into such a small space it gets hard to find or hear them. Overall spending $80 on this event made me want to find a cop and tell him or her "I been robbed" but such are the lessons in life and I'll keep exploring my home town and reporting to you how the experience felt to me.
