Everyone and their dog loves this place. That's cool. I've never been one to go somewhere just because 'everyone else is doing it'.
Local 510 has a lot of potential but for me, it's missing that special something that elevates it to a great place. In my mind, it is so very average. Perhaps it's one of those places that you either love or you don't. I don't love it. That's ok, because we don't have to agree on everything right?
One reviewer has called the staff "painfully cool" - I guess I can see that, if painfully cool means hanging out chatting with the other staff, waltzing by the table every once in a while. Let's face it, when someone 10 years younger than me refers to me with a condescending "hun" it IS painful.
Food is expensive for what you get, and doesn't blow my mind. A friend RAVES about their tacos so I try them and find them really really bland. The jambalaya makes me want to cry, it is ALSO painful. Calgary IS changing into a city with great food and truthfully, I expect more from a place like this that just has so damn much potential.
Local 510 will be one of those places that I go when someone else suggests it but won't ever be at the top of my list. It's ok, maybe I truly DON'T get it.
