  • I called several places for a last-minute massage and this was the first one with an opening that day. Given the yelp rating, I gladly took it. The location was a cute house with heavy curtains to keep the light down and noise dampened. The receptionist offered me a chilled bottle of water and I immediately saw a note that CCs get a 2.75% surcharge (none for cash or debit). There was also a notice on the wall that a 20% tip is expected for all services. I'd say "duh" but I am a fan of clarity so shouldn't knock it as it might well have been someone's first time. The massage was amazing. My biggest complaint was that I was an idiot and only went for 60 minutes even though they offered me the option for 90. Next time I won't make that same mistake again--if 90 is available, I'll take it. The aromatherapy scents were good--a subtle enough mix that I knew something special was going on, but I didn't feel like I was in a hippy shop. The room did get a bit chilly for me after a while, but that made the hot towels (to remove excess oil from my skin) all the more amazing whenever they were brought out. Next time I will ask for it to be a tad warmer, though. There was music/ambient noise to the point that I wasn't bothered by outside sounds (another yelper mentioned this but I had no problems whatsoever once in the room), but my masseur and I could talk easily--and more often he could tell just from my breathing whether the pressure was good or not. Perry is a great massage therapist but he could well have been a magician. There were many moments when I actually couldn't tell exactly what he was doing (was it a thumb, a fist, a knuckle, an elbow, or maybe all of the above?) but it felt like he was melting my flesh into soft butter rather than tense muscle meat. I knew I was in pain, but it was an unusual pain for me, more radiating than in a single knotted spot. Perry found the issues and worked them out--not just the one spot but a general postural correction including spot-focus, realignment, stretching, and general relaxation. I had debated getting totally nude--I rarely do in a new place--but suspected I would need some full spine exposure and I was right. Not to worry: Perry's draping techniques were perfect. I was covered, protected, and felt totally safe and not at all awkward even as he rotated my legs, adjusted the bolster, had me flip over, hot toweled my limbs down, etc. Perry offered me his card as I paid (along with another chilled water plus a healthy snack thing I didn't pay attention to due to finally feeling good again) and I took it so as not to offend him, but, really, I didn't need it. I'll be back and I'll be asking for him.
