| - Bottom Line: I'll go back, depending on who I'm with and my mood.
I was in PHX with some friends. We headed over to Mills and of course we were overwhelmed with eating options ......well, they were overwhelmed, I pulled up Yelp ;-)
We narrowed it down to Pizza. There were 2 options - right across the street was a Mellow Mushroom. We stood outside looking at the menu at La Bocca and a nice guy, named John, stopped to tell us that the place was awesome. So we went in.
It was empty. We grabbed a table near a window and ordered.
It was Happy Hour so it was $5 off glasses of wine. So I had a very nice Chardonnay for $5.
I ordered one of the Bruschetta selections and so did one of my friends. He had Brie with seasonal fruit. The fruit was candied oranges with the rinds on. It was bitter and sweet at the same time. I enjoyed it. Mine was Roquefort with pears and balsamic vinegar. They were $3.50 each or 4 for $12. They were delicious and filling. Thick slices of bread loaded with the toppings and cut in half so you could easily order a few, mix and match, and share.
Three of us had pizza and one had a pasta dish. The pizzas were very good. Not the best I have ever had - and to be honest I probably like Mellow Mushroom's pizza better. But that being said, this place was a much better all around experience.
Beautiful interior design. Beautiful place settings, giant elegant, Olivia Pope'esque, wine glasses. Intimate yet spacious. The place filled up by the time we left. Also, right before we left live music started.
So, as I said, if I'm with a group who just wants to go get a filling pizza and get in and out quick - I'd go to MM. But if you want to have a nice evening, sitting and chatting with friends and have a well paced meal - I'd go here.
Especially on Mon or Tues when they do the pizza and bottle of wine for $20 - go with a friend and add 4 specialty bruschettas for $12 and you are at $20 per person (tip included) for a great night!
Bottom Line: Bookmarked for "those" nights ;-)
