  • Boy, was I surprised when I walked by and saw this completely remodeled buffet. I've been staying at the Orleans for Vegas trips for the past 15 years. I've had the old French Market Buffet more times than I can count and it has always been this drab depressing place with horrible food. Well, all that has changed. The Medley Buffet is all new and modernized! I came for week day dinner and it was $18.99 with players club card. They have extended the buffet line and there are so many more choices that look much more appetizing and inviting. The food is overall much improved. I really liked their smoked pork spare ribs, the braised oxtail, and the menudo. The old New Orleans items are still there, so rest assured you can still get chicken and sausage gumbo as well as red beans and rice. The gumbo seems less spicy than it used to be, but nothing a little Tabasco can't fix. I also really liked the al pastor tacos with the meat actually being cut from the rotating spit. They also serve crawfish, although when we went they were frozen crawfish from last season. They were gigantic in size and tasted quite good for being frozen. They were cooked well enough that you could still take the first ring off and pinch the tail to get the meat to come out all at once. I hope as crawfish season picks up, they switch over to the live stuff. It's happened in the past at French Market Buffet, so no reason it can't happen at the upgraded Medley Buffet. Some items have not changed. The hushpuppies and fried catfish are pretty dry. The pizzas look anemic and greasy. The desserts, while upgraded, are still stuff that's brought in instead of being made in-house. The staff seem to have more of a spring in their steps and even the clientele seems upgraded. No longer is this buffet just full of old locals eating for free after earning 200 points. It felt like I was eating at M Resort. With this new upgrade, Orleans leapfrogged many local buffets and even many strip buffets. I'd say the order goes Bacchanal at Caesars, then Studio B at M Resort, then Medley Buffet in a tie with Feast Buffet at Red Rock, then Wynn, Bellagio, and the 3rd tier stuff at the Harrah's resorts.
