| - I visited Carowinds on Saturday May 10th - it was graduation weekend for many of the universities in the area and Mother's day the next day. My friends and I weren't sure what to expect with the crowds but it ended up being a perfect day. Our average wait time for any ride was about 45-60 minutes.
They really have a great variety of roller coasters - lap bar (Intimidator, Fury 325), shoulder bar (Carolina Cyclone, Carolina Cobra), stand up (Vortex), laying (Nighthawk), dangly feet (After Burn), and wooden (Hurler, Thunder Road). It was nice that we never really felt like we were going on the same ride over and over again.
The new giga coaster Fury 325 is an awesome ride! It was the only coaster that we went on twice during the day. This ride is brand new this year and unlike the other coasters where you bring your belongings with you and place them in a bin, this ride does not have the bins. Instead they have lockers that you rent - SCAM TO EARN MORE MONEY! The locker costs $1/hour with a 2 hour minimum. The only plus side to this method opposed to the bin system is that they unload and load that ride SUPER fast so even a long line moves pretty quickly.
The food offerings are pretty standard for an amusement park - lots of hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, chicken fingers, french fries, pretzels, funnel cakes, etc.
The park itself could probably use a few improvements like new paint on some of the rides - which I thought maybe would have been done in the off season every year.
My biggest complaint from my trip to Carowinds would be the fact there are ZERO signs around the park to point you in the direction of a certain ride you may be looking for. In every other amusement park that I have ever visited they always have tons of huge signs or "street signs" pointing in multiple directions for all of the different attractions. They have maps at the entrance so be sure to grab one.
