| - My biggest pet peeve about living here is that they require you to hand deliver rent checks by walking into the office every month. No drop box, no auto pay. The office staff is generally nice, but they got snooty with me when I had one late check because I worked late and couldn't get to the office on time.
Garages are detached. My wife parked in the garage, but additional parking is spread out, and I often have a 3-5 minute walk to get to my car. There is no access code to open the main entrance gate. So if you forget your remote you are screwed. Or if you order food delivery, you have to go out and open the gate for them, or ask them to follow a car in.
Interiors are underwhelming. None of the windows in the main living area open, so no fresh air on good weather days. Doors are not well sealed and crickets and roaches waltz in occasionally. No coat closet, so the vacuum lives in the guest room. The kitchen hood does not vent outside, it recycles air, so cooking can get smokey with the gas stove. The bathroom fan is linked to the light switch, so it sometimes wakes up my wife if i go in the middle of the night.
Another pet peeve is that there is no recycling, they said they cancelled it to save money. Walkways around the apartment are a little weird, and sometimes I have to walk in the street just to do a lap with my dog. They at least have doggie poop areas, but no fenced area unfortunately.
Sadly I have personally witnessed two domestic violence incidents within 1 year. I called the police in one situation, but after an hour of waiting, they didn't show up.
Most of the short comings are blamed on the fact that the place is run by a corporation called Ovation. So the staff have little power to make any changes. I wish I had stuck with my original plan to rent a house from a homeowner.
