  • CAESARS PALACE SWEEPTAKES WINNER ADVENTURE #5: FREE TICKET TO MARIAH CAREY Last December when I received an email stating that I was one of the four winners of the "I Am Caesar" Sweepstakes for Caesars Palace 50th Anniversary one of the perks I would receive is a VIP ticket for the Colosseum headliner. When scheduling my free stay at Caesars Palace it was based upon who was the headliner at the Colosseum. Two stipulations of the "I Am Caesars" Indulgence Sweepstakes prize were that I had to book my trip by May 1 and stay at Caesars Palace by August 31. During that time frame the only Colosseum headliner that stood out in my mind was Mariah Carey. She was performing 6 nights in July. Two days after Mariah Carey's last performance the comedian Jeff Dunham was performing at the Colisseum. No disrespect to Jeff Dunham but I wasn't planning my trip for a comedian. That's how I scheduled my free stay at Caesars Palace. I've passed by the Colosseum number times when I go to Caesars Palace. From looking inside the casino the Colosseum doesn't look big at all but I've seen lots of people leaving the Colosseum after a concert. Earlier in the day of the show I picked up my free ticket. Would I have paid to see Mariah Carey if I didn't have a free ticket? I'll be honest no. The free ticket I got cost $250. Just to see a free show is cool. I've seen two shows in Vegas: Jabbawockeez at Monte Carlo in 2011 and Beatles' Cirque de Soleil "Love" at Treasure Island in 2014. Both times I paid for the tickets. This time the ticket was for free. After dinner I headed to the Colosseum to watch Mariah Carey. When you enter the seating area you are amazed how many seats can fill this theater. My seat wasn't at the front row seat but it was eight rows away from the stage. May not have been front row seat but I got the chance to really see her close. The seat I got was the closest to the front stage that I've ever been to a concert. I like shows that have a central theme. When Mariah Carey was performing in July her concert was called "Mariah #1 to Infinity". The songs Mariah Carey performed were all number one singles - 18 singles to be exact. That's a clever marketing move. In addition everyone in the audience knows most of her songs. Her songs brought back memories. Her first song she performed was her first number one hit "Vision of Love". Other number one singles include the rendition of the Jackson 5's "I'll Be There" to her collaboration with Boyz to Men "One Sweet Day". I'm proud to say I grew up in the 1990s. I know we get nostalgic about the past but it's a tribute how Mariah Carey has been influential throughout 3 decades. Mariah Carey went through that fiasco of New Year's Eve Party. She more than made up with this performance. I won't be surprised if gets another number one single. At the end of the concert she made an announcement that she'll be performing at the Colosseum in December for her concert "All I Want for Christmas is You". The seating layout of the Colosseum is impressive. It has a orchestra setting. Will I pay for a ticket to watch another show at the Colosseum? That's hard to say especially after I got a free ticket to watch a show. There are musicians performing concerts and comedians doing acts at the Colosseum. Most of the headliners who performed at the Colosseum never really got me excited me to purchase a ticket. If the original Broadway cast of the hip-hop musical play "Hamilton's America" was a headliner at the Colosseum I'll totally be interested in buying a ticket. Regardless if I ever go to watch a show at the Colosseum again just watching a free Mariah Carey concert special.
