| - ***Before I got married, I thought it would be SOOOOOO cool if my future huband proposed during a marathon. You know, we'd be running and he'd propose at the finish line all icky and sweaty. Yup. It'd be SOOO awesome!
Alas, that did not happen (but don't worry I made sure he could finish a half marathon before agreeing to marriage puahaha). =P --- BUT I will tell you this.. this is quite possibly one of the only races I'd consider getting married IN. You know, while running by a wedding chapel... just cuz it's vegas! *did see this happen, though.**
O______________________o
It wasn't THAT THAT bad .......compared to the other Rock n Rolls ...
I wasn't expecting the start / logistics to be any different than what we experienced.
The race down the Strip at night was pretty awesome.
We got to see parts of old and downtown Vegas that I probably would've never
seen had it not been for this race. It's not everyday the whole Strip shuts down for you. It is pretty cold at night though, I'm not sure how people ran in a tank and shorts.
Expo was fine -- same as every other run. I did note that they give the end of the year heavy medals so that's pretty nifty (snagged my 5th heavy medal w00tz!).
Tip for next year's runners:
1) Wear warm clothing
You might get stuck waiting to go to a warm place (avoid hypothermia, unlike me!) If you take too long outside and do get hypothermia, quickly find the nearest warm shower. It will fix you right up! Oh hot water, how I love thee. And yes, I was one of the many runners who got sick and vomitted. Just glad I didn't need the medics.
2) Sign up early!!! it is definitely cheaper to sign up early. plus, this year's runners get a $50 discount because the organizers felt bad and gave said discount. Also do pre-race day pick up -- they were charging $40 extra for race day pick ups.
3) Stay close by -- luxor/ mandalay bay is really your best bet. please don't get caught in the cold!
4) Park at Luxor / Excalibur -- but try to get there around 2:00pm as the Strip shuts down at 3:00pm.
5)Take advantage of the deals on hotels for runners. They are the cheapest offered. My advice? Stay at The Venetian for a few days and switch over to Luxor on the last day.
6) Once you are in your corral, do not leave!! You will never find your way back. LOL (says the girl who left her corral and took an hour trying to get back to it)
7)Try not to gear check -- it gets pretty ugly in Mandalay Bay with everyone milling about.
8) Expect the marathon/half marathon lines to blur. It happens at every RnR race.. but keep complaining!! Maybe they'll change..
9) There is no need to wear headlights. Yes, it will get dark at some parts but there is sufficient lighting. suck it upppp...
10) Go clubbing at Tao since it's free, because you'll be too tired to party at LAVO after the race. :)
Fin! Done with the Rock n Roll series!
