| - A group of three of us went to Roland's on a busy Sunday afternoon.
Being pretty new to the Pittsburgh area and having never been to the Strip District we walked along the packed street until we happened along Roland's. It had a good amount of people dining and people were in and out constantly as we discussed if we should venture the unknown. With what we saw in mind, we figured it must be ok.
We waited 30 minutes at the packed bar for our table. Once seated we were greeted by our very nice server Brittney who advised us of the specials and their specialities. One person in our party inquired about the "famous" lobster roll. We were advised they use real lobster and that it's loaded with big pieces of lobster meat. Considering two of the people in our party we're visiting from south Florida (a seafood rich environment), the seafood knowledge is vast. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder to share, a lobster roll, margarita pizza and some other entree that escapes me. Our drinks and the bowl of soup arrived within a reasonable amount of time but the entrees didn't arrive for 30 minutes from the time our soup came. To make matters worse the lobster roll and forgotten entree came out at that 30 minute mark but the margarita pizza didn't arrive to our table for another 20 minutes. Now, the food. Not being a huge clam chowder fan, I was very pleasantly surprised and we all thoroughly enjoy the chowder. The lobster roll is not "loaded with big pieces of lobster meat", it is a sandwich made with langostinos (not a lobster, not a prawn more like a crayfish or per Wikipedia - a relative to the hermit crab?!?!). The margarita pizza was ordinary, average and utterly forgettable. I ate a piece and a half and took home the rest. Unfortunately no one was interested in partaking in it after the fact so it was pitched. The unknown entree must have been ok because I do recall the plate being empty but again, I don't recall what is was. Following our food, we had a difficult time getting our check and had to hunt down a server on our way to the restroom. Which speaking of, there were three stalls if I recall and two of them were stopped up with, well, you know and the third had no toilet paper. My waiting friend kept telling everyone who lined up behind us to grab paper towels so they weren't paperless once they finally got in there. Advising the hostess staff feel on deaf ears because they both seemed to care less and gave my friend and unspoken "whatever" face and response. I do not believe I will be giving Roland's a second chance nor recommending it to visitors.
