After another unsuccessful trip to the supermarket I searched up farmers markets, found this one and decided to visit after reading all the reviews on Yelp.
At three-thirty on a Saturday afternoon, I would have thought it would be more crowded since they close at six, but a number of vendors had already packed up and left. Customers on the other hand, were swarming the remaining stalls.
First I picked up yellow heirloom tomatoes - about a pound and change. My mouth dropped to the floor when the farmer charged me a dollar - yes a single, solitary dollar. I would have easily paid three or four dollars at my supermarket for these tomatoes.
I continued going from stall to stall picking up green, orange and red peppers, various herbs, four different kinds of apples and some lettuce. When all was said and done, I spent about fifteen dollars and walked out with both arms full of produce for the week with plans to come back the following.
This has become a weekly event for us and will likely continue for some time.
