  • We reserved two rooms and arrived about 11PM on Friday night. Check-in was a breeze, the front desk clerk was very pleasant and helpful and there was a security officer in the lobby who gave us a map, drew out the route to the room, recommended local eateries and offered lots of other little tips on having a good time. We did notice right away there was a sign saying it was $24.95 a day to use the fitness center (turns out we mis-read this sign) and internet (for us business users) was $20.00 a day. We were told the luggage carts were locked up and he could not unlock them so we had to carry out stuff to the rooms on the 4th floor. This was very unexpected but not a huge problem since we had seven teens with us, but still, no carts? The elevators have no ventilation at all. Almost midnight in June in Phoenix and the heat in the elevator was almost unbearable, glad we were only going four floors! The elevator was also pretty dirty and appeared to not have been cleaned in a few days. We got to the rooms and one room was fine, the other had a A/C unit that was running but moving no air at all. I pulled the air filter our and it was completely clogged up. That room never did cool down. We took a walk down to the River Ranch see see exactly how to get in and where it was, etc., and noticed a sign saying four guests per suite. THAT was not on their website anywhere but whatever, we'll pay for the extra guests. We ordered pizza and went to bed. The next morning we woke up to ants in this same room and requested to change rooms which turned out to be very easy save for having to lug everything down one floor and to a room nowhere near the elevator. The new room had A/C that worked great! During this very short time when we technically had three rooms we went down to the river and got our wristbands. Yes, I know it was cheating but I didn't feel too bad about it after everything else. By 9:00AM the water park was very crowded but we did get a table right inside the gate in front of the hot dog stand (which didn't open until noon). You can't take any outside food or drink in save for water and the beverages inside are very expensive. Thankfully we had a giant cooler in the truck and it was parked in between the river and the room about 30 seconds walk away. By 10AM the water was murky, almost like it wasn't being filtered fast enough and the water slide doesn't have nearly enough water pressure to push you down, you'll get stuck in several places. I was floating the river for an hour or so and by time I got out the deck was so hot I almost didn't make it the back to the table where my shoes were. I burnt my feet very badly. Yes, I know this is Phoenix in June and understand (and like) the heat. But this is a water park where people are expected to be barefoot and would think they'd cover the decks with kooldeck to make it bearable. There were hundreds of small children there and I hear many screaming about how hot the deck was. By 12:30 it was so crowded you couldn't move and we all took off to check out the mall and Dave & Busters in Tempe and didn't get back until about 5PM and everyone wanted to hit the water park again. The waters were so dirtied by 5PM that I wouldn't go back in. Thankfully the kids didn't seem to care. And, most of the adults that remained at the park were happily drunk and rudely obnoxious. We hung out until about 8:30PM when the kids wanted to go to the pool by the room. This pool was much cleaner and had some very comfortable lounge chairs lining the deck - wish I could've brought those home with me. We ended up packing up and coming back home Saturday night since the A/C in the newer room started blowing warmer air again. Lastly, you'll find that parking is a real premium on this property. There were mostly big SUV's and trucks in the lot (ours included) and the spaces aren't big enough not is there room to get in and out of the parking spots without doing the three-point-dance. When we checked out the sign for the fitness center was in more clear view and it said two guests we allowed and anymore than two guests per room was $24.95 a day. I guess this is a little better but still unreasonable since the hotel knew how many guests we had in the room and again, nowhere on the website did it say anything about the restriction. Overall this is a decent property and we probably will go back. But if we do, it'll be either right before the summer season or right as it's ending and we'll go during the week, not on a weekend.
