  • Unique concept for a micro-brewery that is worth a visit, We have been to Railroad Brewing on a couple different occasions. The concept is pretty simple where the brewery serves their own beers and provides some other local area brews. The atmosphere is very casual with large garage doors to open and let air flow through. Every beer I have had was decent with the Chocolate Blonde being my personal favorite. I have also found the bartenders to be helpful in trying new beers and although not overly conversational, my experience with the staff has been pleasant. All that said, there are a number of items that don't make me more of a regular while still really liking this brewery. 1) They do not serve food themselves, rather there are food trucks that rotate for food service. This is both a neat concept and also a little bit of a bother. If I want a drink and food, Railroad falls off my list because I don't know what they are serving until I arrive. 2) This is somewhat combined with item 1; outside food is not allowed. I can understand this policy when there are food trucks in order to support those businesses; however wish it was move lax when there is no food truck. Again, this is something that weighs on my decision to come to Railroad on an individual basis. 3) The two times we have visited there has been a band/musical entertainment. In both instances, it is so loud you cannot carry on a conversation. This isn't abnormal, but with the shed-like atmosphere that sound carries and becomes another decision point on when/if I stop at Railroad. 4) Some of the beers rotate. Again, this isn't abnormal for a micro-brewery, but is the closest to a deal breaker for me. Our second stop to the brewery was due to a craving for the Chocolate Blonde and a Habanero beer that we enjoyed on our first visit. Unfortunately neither were being served on this trip. If I understood correctly, the Chocolate Blonde may be available again in the fall and the Habanero may have been a one-time brew. Looks like I won't be back until the fall :-( All this said, we do plan to return, but not when a band is playing and most likely in the fall when the beers we want are available. It is a neat experience and a place you can stop for one drink or an evening of drinking so long as you have eaten a solid meal prior to arriving.
