Disturbing credit card requirement. Average food. Dive bar atmosphere. Good Service.
Before we were served our waitress informed us that someone from our party would be required to hand over their credit card that would be held behind the bar until we all paid after eating. This was strange and a significant overreach. I would have preferred to be asked to pay up front, or make a prepayment on my credit card where funds were held like with a rental car company or hotel. I don't want anyone holding on to my credit card. That is how credit card info gets copied with new RFID scanning machines that people have, and I can see how such a policy could be opportunity for fraud by dishonest staff. They really should hire a Rebecca Gold Standard customer service consultant to find a better solution to this.
We ate on the top floor of the pub. The service was mostly good. At first there was a little glitch in the service when a person at my table asked for water he was told to go and ask for a glass at the bar, which was weird. The person who brought us our food from the pub downstairs was very friendly. The food was average, the fish and chips I ordered had too much batter, it seems like the oil that the fish and chips had been cooked in was old.
