My wife and I went for lunch during the week following their soft opening weekend. Our waiter was friendly, but hardly efficient. He told us that the owner was a largely absentee figure and that the opening weekend had been somewhat of a disaster. Both points speak to a looming failure, but the latter point was used to explain why there were so few items on the menu leaflet he handed to us. As it turns out, there were actually even fewer items available than advertised, since the kitchen was apparently missing a lot of ingredients. Meal prep was nonetheless painfully slow. I had the gourmet burger (eventually) which was good, but hardly gourmet. The fries were very good.
I asked the waiter why the pub had taken so long to open and he replied that they had spent a lot of time and money to create an upscale pub with a unique decor. Unfortunately, they seem to have missed both marks so badly that the inflated pricing seemed more sad than alarming. We've been to a lot of newly-opened restaurants and many recover from poor starts. Maybe the Thornhill Pub will too.
However, I personally won't be going back to check - There are rumors that they're messing with the wait staff tips. So if we do ever do return to the Thornhill Pub, it won't be until it's been converted back into a convenience store.
