Great atmosphere; terrible food. Overall, this is a neat place to meet up with friends. The live music is an added bonus. The food needs MAJOR improvement. Had a Ruben sandwich and the homemade sauerkraut was possibly the worst sauerkraut I've ever had. It had absolutely zero flavor, almost as if someone forgot the salt, spices, or whatever else was supposed to be in it. Brought it to the attention of an employee (other patrons had also) - employee didn't seem the least bit concerned and possibly even slightly arrogant and dismissive. The corned beef was standard. The bread was burnt and soggy. German potato salad was okay - not great, not bad. Plain battered fries were not worth eating. The food was VERY expensive, especially for poor quality. I would never recommend the Essen Haus as a place to eat and I wouldn't ever order anything except drinks and possibly an appetizer (if I was really desperate).
