| - Okay...I read some bad reviews about this place and almost didn't go. But we were out that way and wanted somewhere funky to go. My husband basically said, "let's just go." I was game as the good reviews said they had some awesome stuff. The bad reviews were obviously written by people who mainly shop at Ashley Furniture. I LOVED IT!!! No kidding. It's amazing! I was skeptical, trust me. I hear the prices were high yada yada yada. They weren't. They were pretty reasonable. There was a great, smallish dining table for $125. My husband couldn't believe it. One of a kind, just beautiful. True, no air conditioning or public bathrooms, but that didn't bother me as long as I had a heads up. There are several buildings filled with amazing stuff; one of a kind iron work, lots of great (what appeared to me as) Spanish Colonial wood pieces, and of course amazing pieces of retablo (hand painted Mexican religious art. There were women's clothes from Nepal and India. I LOVE almost anything from India; it's usually all cotton or organic fibers. I wound up buying a fantastic, funky hoodie which I'm so in love with, a rayon, embroidered top (the hippy in me), and of course a beautiful folk art, hand painted angel on a rustic piece of wood. I ADORE IT!!! I just brought it home, took pics and posted on facebook, already have had compliments on it.
Regarding the lack of friendliness. Welllllllllllll the lady was fine..really, just fine. I realize in the U.S. the customer is always right and we're to kiss their...you know...but she was fine. I wouldn't call her Mary Sunshine or anything, but I chatted with and she was friendly enough.
I'm a designer. I love all things beautiful for the home. I love one of a kind pieces and I truly love rustic. If you don't like rustic, this is not the place for you. BUT if you like Spanish colonial, or fun, one of a kind things, or Mexican folk art that looks vintage (maybe it really is, not sure) then you'll love this place. don't let the other reviews discourage you. I've been to a lot of "antique malls" that are just a bunch of tchachkes not worth taking home. But this place is the real deal. And I shop a lot.
