| - So liquid nitrogen ice cream doesn't get me super excited. I first had it over a decade ago at the science centre. That being said, I'm totally game for trying it with people who haven't tried it before because the smoke show really is rather impressive. That being said, I've been to Cool N2 three times in the last two or so weeks.
The first time I went was on a Queen West food crawl with a friend of mine. He hadn't had liquid nitrogen ice cream before, so we came, right after we had Kekou. He ordered the oreo flavor. It's one of the ones that doesn't come with the syringe full of sauce. I tried a few bites of his ice cream. As someone who isn't fond of oreos or chocolate, I was surprised at how good it was! It was definitely full of oreo flavor and it was surprisingly creamy as well. Beyond the liquid nitrogen factor, it was still tasty ice cream.
The second time I went was also with a friend who hadn't had liquid nitrogen ice cream before. We got the Storm in the Six. It's got a pudding base, citrus passionfruit pop-ice (think dip n dots), a huge cloud of grey/black cotton candy, and a smattering of pop rocks on top. For those of you who are into the whole activated charcoal trend, this is the dessert for you. Both the pop-ice and the cotton candy are that color because of the charcoal. I didn't know that when I had it. Oops. Still no syringe. It was quite a tasty treat, and definitely meant to be shared. Oh. This isn't first date food. Eating activated charcoal has the after effect of making you look like you've got a mouth full of tooth rot, but you can easily rinse your teeth. Taking pictures with black teeth is fun though.
The third time, I went back with friend one so he could try the Storm. Did I mention that all proceeds of the Storm go towards helping victims of Hurricane Harvey? That's a nice bonus. He had the Storm. I had the very matcha. I finally got my sauce syringe! So satisfying. The name may sound a tad bland, but it's a very apt name. I'm picky about my matcha. I like it strong in matcha flavor and not too sweet. They did it right. The matcha ice cream was good. There was matcha powder on top of the ice cream. The matcha sauce gave it a little more sweetness. I'm game to try their other flavors, but I think I've found my winner. We also had their frozen breath (liquid nitrogen cheetos). These were fun. I found I couldn't keep the nitrogen from the cheeto in my mouth when chewing down because it was too cold. I may have gotten a mild cold burn on the roof of my mouth from not shaking the frozen cheetos enough before putting them in my mouth. Don't worry. These do come with instructions. Just follow them and you'll be fine. It was lots of fun taking videos of other people eating these though.
If I'm in the area, I'm game to go back. What I really want next time is a handful of sauce syringes to squirt in my mouth. Yeah. I'm that kind of trigger happy kid.
