  • My wife and I went into Shooter's world in Peoria to look for a new hand gun. We informed our sales person my wife had never held a gun before, wanted to get the feel for several, then finally try them on the range. Our sales person Roberto was wonderful! He didn't pressure us, he even suggested, since we didn't have time to shoot that day, to come back on Friday for Lady's night and my wife could shoot for free + cost of ammo. I would pay the normal fees. He also stated we could come back on Tuesday and do the buy and try your new gun range time, but Friday worked better for our schedule. We came back Friday, Roberto was at the other store so we spoke with Kyle then Wayne at the range section of the store. Kyle gave us our range rental paperwork and told us it would be about a half hour. Not a problem. I would like to make a suggestion here - get verbal feedback from the customers about safety! Did the person really understand what they read? Can they read? I put my initials and signed because I did read, but also because Kyle told me were. If someone doesn't comprehend the rules of safety, you get the point. I asked Kyle if someone would be out there to help us, to teach my wife as this was my wife's first time shooting. Kyle stated yes a little, there's a range officer out there, so we continued our rental processes. When we were called, we met Wayne. Again, a very nice gentleman, and again I explained my wife never fired a handgun before, so he went into loading the clip with two dummy rounds, aiming, and holding the gun (grip). I asked him if anyone would be out there, as my wife had no idea about recoil. Wayne stated the range officer was out there and could help if needed. Wayne was busy, which is understandable, no fault to him, so we moved down the line towards the registers. I was expecting a little more training or "newbie care" as we are dealing with firearms. I was also expecting there would be a video as indicated by Lisa R in an earlier comment her made here on Yelp: "First time shooters are always escorted and thoroughly monitored by our RSOs. This is perhaps how we maintain a 100% accident and personal injury free range since opening more than 4 years ago. As far as requiring new customers to watch a safety video, that is a program that we have tested and are in the process of implementing in the coming weeks." Lisa, please do check your video logs, we were there Friday 01/13/17 about 1pm, we rented the M&P9 and XDm9 and 4 targets. We were never escorted and my wife, the first time shooter was never monitored above the normal clientele (CCTVs). Wayne did come out once to help me with my stance, but left straight after. Nobody helped or spoke with my wife, the new shooter. We never met the range officer or watched any safety videos. The three ladies next to us, one of them I assume was jerking pretty bad, as she kept hitting our target (at second cross beam). At such close range, those actions should have been seen by your range officers. This was concerning. Now I state these things not because I'm unhappy with Shooter's World, quite the contrary. I want Shooter's World to be the very best! We did purchase a beautiful new XDm9 4.5 and are very happy with the way Shooter's World's employee's treated us. I really like that your free to use ear protection on the range is rated at NRR30 (I asked Kyle, he sought the answer). This shows you put customer care high by using a quality product. Next I would like to see new shooters have that safety video to watch and maybe some comprehensive questions afterwards. Then a guiding hand on their shoulder for at least the first few rounds. Thank you.
