| - I came here with my friend because her mom had some MyVegas coupons. She got two cabanas and $175 total in food/drink credit.
When we got to GVR we ate some breakfast at the buffet, but mostly were in it for the endless mimosas because they were strong and free flowing (aka best combo).
We headed out to the cabanas around noon and they were nice! Ceiling fans, couches, mini fridge and auxiliary cord to bump Sublime with. We didn't stay in it for long though. We soon headed to the pool, which, for the cabanas, there's a little mini pool thing that's 3.5 ft deep and more like a long thin river than a pool, but it's ideal for sitting in, cooling off, having a smoke/drink in. And that was where we stayed for almost the entire day! The waitresses were super nice and really good to us. They were quick and kept our pitchers full. The Purple Haze pitcher was some crazy good cocktail that hit quickly while the Orange Rum Beach drink (forgot the name!) was super tasty and slightly less potent. I think we tried all the drinks, either in singles or pitchers. The sangria had really pretty garnishes; the mai tai was a werid blue green color that looked beautiful, until the colors mixed and it looked sewage-y. The sex on the beach was good, nothing too remarkable.
So yeah. The nachos were lame; just a couple of chips on a long platter with toppings; however, the chicken was really good as was the fruit platter and chips and dip. The watermelon and guac were super fresh!
As for the pool pool. My friend and I ventured down to the big pool in the afternoon and it was nice. The water was quite a bit warmer (kind of gross but still, always a relief from 104 degree weather) and the sand was weird. The grain texture felt unlike an ocean but it was cool nonetheless. I even found some in my bikini bottom when I went to the bathroom later! The regular pool was deeper also, 4 ft, but had lots of splashy kids and no one was really drinking so we went back to our cold, shallow, alcohol pool and stayed there till we left around 7.
Last thing- the lawn chairs here are amazing. They are so fucking comfy! My friend passed out in one and I almost fell asleep too. There were multiple people sleeping in these incredibly comfortable chairs, so lay in them, but be warned.
Definitely stop by the GVR pool if you're looking for a get away from the Strip and the heat! It's much quieter but still top tier, excellency! Awesome day-cation in summary.
