| - First time at Club Red. I went to see Fates Warning. The parking lot was well lit, plenty of spaces available and no noticeable trash. I had purchased my tickets online and was able to simply state my name and show my ID to enter. Wristband if over 21, marker X on the back of your hand if you are not permitted to drink. We then passed another gentleman that appeared to be scanning people for metal and/or paraphernalia. Upon entering, there were two ladies there to ask us which show we were attending and guided us in the right direction, as there are two stages. Tables were lined up against the wall with band gear for purchase. The bar just inside and had a wide selection of beer and liquor, soda was also available. The bartender was nice. The cocktail that I had was decent, typical 1 oz. shot. The bar was constantly wiped down throughout the evening, so no leaning on the bar to shout your order and having sticky goo on the underside of your arms.
The facility was clean. Especially impressive was the cleanliness of the lady's room although one of the soap dispensers was empty. I've been to other venues where the restrooms are filthy. This was a pleasant surprise.
The security was great. They had eyes on everyone without being intrusive. I felt completely safe at all times. And if anyone complains about the security, it's likely that they were trying to get away with something and were just pissed that they couldn't. The sound quality was excellent. It felt great to feel the sound reverberate through my body again!
There's plenty of room out front for smoke breaks, though they will make sure you leave all beverages on a cocktail table near the door so you don't take them outside. For that matter, you couldn't even take them into the restroom. Understandable, I have no issue with this. A couple of ashtrays were provided. There are two 36" benches outside and a block wall about 24" or so tall to sit on. Don't plan on sitting down at this venue inside, however, it is standing room only unless you have purchased "VIP" tickets for the show. If you have purchased these tickets, you are then able to sit in the small section between the bar and the stage where they have a table and chairs.
Overall experience here was excellent. I will definitely be returning in the future. In addressing sound quality issues from other reviewers, I heard every instrument and the vocals just fine. It was an excellent show. There was a small power glitch in the very beginning of when Fate's Warning came on stage but they fixed it quickly. You cannot expect perfection everywhere you go. This is a quality venue. Don't forget that people tend to post dissatisfactory reviews at a much higher rate than those that are quite happy. Many are often invalid to begin with. Check it out yourself, form your own opinion.
