| - Oh where to begin...
The biggest problem for paying customers that I witnessed was the "line system" was a fail! It all turned in to one large line. The people with fast passes were ripped off. And the people who just wanted a sample had to stand in the large lines and wait for people to order their entrees.
As for the Elite Event. A Grumpy lady called me. (We all know her name) she had no info besides "Be at the amphitheatre by 11am to sign in. And there will be cameras." There was no email with details and when I asked for details she said she didn't have any. Ok... Thanks... This was a week before the event!
I get to the event, circle the amphitheatre, hit every floor 3 times. There was so signs or people anywhere. When I was ready to give up someone directed me to building and a small office, opposite direction of the amphitheatre. Still NO signage (Yelp, Elite, Event, ect..) then went back to the amphitheatre. Waited and hour. Finally got some what situated. (Walking back and forth from the amphitheatre 3 times.)
We were told "Cut in front of everyone. Just say your Yelp." But they don't give you ANYTHING to distinguish you from anyone else there. And you look like a complete ASS coming up to these hard working people and paying costumers saying "I'm with Yelp, give me a sample." Some people shot you down. It was just awkward.
We were told to get food and carry it over to a camera for an interview... Again... Weird and awkward.
I understand that this was a first time for all who participated. From the coordinators, venders, trucks, customers, Yelpers, ect... So here would be my advice if you decide to do this again: Take notes from Scottsdale Culinary Festival! They do almost the same thing but better organized. Throw away the whole fast pass thing. That's not going to work. Be more stricken about what you want to see from your participating food trucks.
As for the Yelp Judges. I think a good idea should have been to have small samples from the trucks ready in an area where the Yelpers could give feed back about who, and what, they were eating. This way you could easily catch reactions and votes.
Best part of my day was meeting all the awesome Yelpers!! Thank you to Tim B. For being my partner in Crime, and David T. For being the go getter for us to follow! I met so many great people!! You all made this day worth it!!
