  • Take the reviews you read online about this hotel with a grain of salt; as usual, YMMV. I had been awake since 2:30am to catch a 7am flight into Cleveland. By the time I got the Red Line from the airport to Tower City and walked to the hotel, it was only 9:20am. My intention was to leave my bag with the front desk and head out to find breakfast. The lovely woman (both in looks and personality) at the front desk asked me if I wanted to just leave my bag or if I wanted to check-in. At 9 o'clock in the morning? REALLY? Sure! I got to have a nap before venturing out for lunch. I had booked my room with one of those bid-for-a-discount sites and wasn't expecting anything in terms of a view. The hotel reviews i read before bidding suggested that this hotel was in a transition period from smoking to non-smoking and some unlucky people got rooms that smelled like smoke. I was half-expecting this to happen to me, but that wasn't anything a trip to CVS for Febreze couldn't fix. As long as the sheets on the bed and the floor of the bathroom are clean, I'm good. I was assigned an east-facing corner room, near the emergency stairs, away from the elevators. It was in its own private alcove and only shared one wall with another room. All hotel rooms should be situated this way. The immediate view was of the city water administrative office, but it was easy to look past that and to the lake. The king size bed was more comfortable than my bed at home with soft linens and 5 pillows. The flat screen TV had my two favorite channels: food and travel. There was a tiny fridge cube, which was awesome for the snacks I ended up buying at the West Side Market on Day 2 of my visit. The bathroom was immaculate and the towels were fluffy. I loved the Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries. Reviews online reported dirty windows (who spends their time looking out of the window? Go out and see the city!) Sure, that was true, but who cares? Reviews also reported slower than molasses elevators. That's also true, but they're currently undergoing replacement and the staff was very good-natured about it. I also read complaints that the room was small. People, why are you staying in your room when you're out of town? The room is for sleeping, maybe a dinner in (I got Noodlecat one night). Go out and explore and the room will seem a lot bigger when you return. Free shuttle service was a bonus, but there are trolley and bus stops close to the hotel, too. I know for next time that I can take the L trolley from Tower City to the Rock Hall stop. Staff was friendly, room was great. This is my go-to hotel for all future visits to Cleveland.
