  • Susan's is the real deal: an independently-owned business at its finest. The owners are as generous as can be with their honest knowledge of all things related to knitting and yarns: from the chemistry of fibers to the sheep in the country of origin. Be sure to call ahead to confirm the hours, as the Internet is not a reliable source! This yarn shop serves as something of a community center for the curious and kind. Visitors share family stories while getting a little help on their latest projects. There is a wide selection of quality yarns and a pretty good stock of needles too. On display are several impressive hats, shawls, blankets, sweaters, and plush toys which serve as inspiration. They have bamboo and buttons, crochet hooks and quilting, plus a highly sought-after wool-dyeing workshop. Shopping here is the opposite of going to a big-box chain store like Jo-Ann Fabrics or Michael's, where the racks are stuffed with low-grade acrylics and the salespeople are stretched thin. I look forward to returning.
