  • I haven't been to a TCBY in almost twenty years, since I moved away from Long Island. I had no idea it still existed, and when I first saw it at Birkdale I scoffed at the thought of eating their frozen yogurt when the world was populated by do-it-yourself yogurt shops. Well, when I mother saw it today she insisted we go for a taste of nostalgia, and being the dutiful son I went along with it. I can honestly say that I was shocked to see the interior of the place. TCBY has reinvented itself to stay current with the times, as I was greeted by none other than the workings of a do-it-yourself frozen yogurt shop. I grabbed a bowl and began filling it up with yogurts like white chocolate, golden vanilla (a major throwback) and strawberry. They had a total of eight different flavors available at one time, and since I saw flavors mentioned on a board that were not in the machines I assume they rotate them out on a daily basis. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't really have too many unique flavors and had mostly plain things like raspberry, chocolate and plain greek (along with the flavors I already mentioned.) Once my cup was full of plenty of frozen dessert I headed over to the toppings bar which had a decent assortment of stuff from traditional toppings to candy chunks to fruit and more. I personally would have preferred more fruit options, as I always load up my self serve yogurt with fresh fruit and white chocolate chips. I don't know how much it cost per ounce, but in the end it cost $10 and change for three yogurt bowls loaded with toppings. I give major kudos to TCBY for evolving to keep up with today's trends and not going extinct for staying stuck in their old-school ways. However, they can learn quite a bit by offering better flavors and a few more "healthy" toppings. Still, it's a great and much-appreciated addition to Birkdale. If I'm at home and want frozen yogurt I will go elsewhere, but if I'm wandering Birkdale and have a hankering for a snack, I'm sure that TCBY will be at the top of the list.
