  • Pros: it's new & clean. Rooms are nice & bathrooms beautiful (although, there is a loud clogging sound when you flush & turn the water off in the sinks). The pool area's lovely & food terrific. The pool music is great, but loud. Staff wonderful. The cons (which, in my opinion, outweigh the pros): 1. Everyone's #1. It's far. Understand though, it's not just far from the strip, but really far. They say, 20 mins., but I'd say 30 easy. 2. The beds are hard. If you've ever been to Asia & experienced their beds, this is them. The pillows are so high & filled, I need to see my chiropractor as I can barely turn my head. 3. The sheets are rough. This is odd for me as I travel tons & this is the first time I've ever thought the sheets were rough & stiff enough to mention. 4. Room Charges- Feel free, but don't forget your ID! The resort clearly has an issue with fraud. ANYTIME you want to charge ANYTHING to your room, you need to show an ID. Might as well carry your credit card, because at some point, if you have a pool day AND charge dinner later, they may cut off your room charging privileges forcing you to walk down to the front desk where they see no issue & suddenly it works. For us, it was a big deal for an $8 charge for a soda & Advil. 5. It's not cheap. I found the pricing comparable to a hotel on the strip. $19 for a Caesar by the pool & $14 for a Marg. Admittedly, the salad was great! 6. Your key demagnetizes & get a security escort to your room. This goes back to, don't forget to keep your ID on you!! The security escort was a total doll. Just felt the 2nd guy waiting at my room was overkill. Especially, since it was 1:30pm & I was sober, but I like to think it was for my safety. 7. Walls are thinner than they look. Night 1 I couldn't sleep between the bed & noise. Where was the music coming from all night long? Night 2, I thought I heard music again. It was midnight. I call the front desk & decide maybe I'm crazy. At 3am I wake & hear the music. It finally dawns on me It's someone's TV in another room. I'm guessing it was next door, but could've been above or below me. Either way, I recommend you bring ear plugs or benedryl in case you need them. People can be loud in the hallways after midnight & the doors have lots of space at the bottom so you hear everything. We ended up putting a towel down to seal it. 8. The free shuttle requires Getting a ticket 30 mins. before departure. Rent a car & you can keep parking it wherever you go (keep in mind the city now charges for parking everywhere). Uber was $25-30 each way. This was the easiest for us even if not cost effective. 9. Pool closes at 6pm, but order a snack by 4:30pm. We didn't get the last call warning. At 4:48pm we were too late for food. 10. If there's an event, 1/2 of the pool area shuts down earlier. I'd say by 3-3:30pm half the pool area was closed for an "unknown event." 1st week of May. 80 degrees & pool area is closed. The ONLY thing to do at the hotel in the middle of nowhere besides eat or gamble & they close it early. It might not be where you want to take your kids. To sum it up: Locals LOV the Summerlin area & think Red Rock is fantastic! I've been going to Vegas for over 30 yrs. & have no issue staying outside the city. However; I feel there should be a good reason to stay in suburbia. The luxury rooms should have beds you melt in & sheets that slide over you making you never want to leave. The drinks should be delicious & not $14 a pop. At Red Rock, I paid the same price to have a view of the city that my 300mm lens was barely able to capture & to eat & drink as I paid the night before for a truly luxurious 1 bedroom stay at a famous hotel on the strip with a full jacuzzi, a bed I sunk into & a view of the strip that was literally to die for. After my 2 nights at Red Rock, I need a deep body massage. My neck, arms, shoulders & lower back are sore & need tweaking. My neck hurt so much after night 1, I had a headache that wouldn't quit. You can find Tylenol at the store on level 2, but again, don't forget that ID & hope they haven't shut down your room charges. Frankly, due to all the ID checks & heavy security throughout the hotel, I got the impression the resort doesn't attract quality clientele on a daily basis. The point of room charges is to be free of cards & wallets while on the premises. Here, the paranoia is high for fraud & I actually felt like I needed to stay around after eating & signing the bill AND showing my ID until the waiter "verified" the room. At this point I might mention we were there in the middle of the week for a conference for Dr.'s. So, that tells you something. Bottom line: if you're looking to experience Vegas, I suggest you stay in the city. If you're a local & looking for a staycation or spa day, Red Rock's the perfect place to sneak off to. If you want to stay a bit off the strip, there are plenty of wonderful resorts to stay at that are much closer & just as fabulous.
