I've taken my 2003 Toyota Tacoma to Riverview Toyota for all its regular service ever since I purchased it from another dealer in May 2003. Back when they were on McDowell Road to their present location. So I have a good relationship with them and trust them with the service of my truck, which now has 151,000 miles.
Yesterday I took my truck in for service and got the 30,000 mile service package which pretty much inspected everything and perform standard maintenance on practically everything. My coolant hoses were also well worn as they were 13 years old so they replaced those and did a complete coolant flush. They also inspected a recall item and found no issues.
THE GOOD... Although taking it to the dealer is very pricey, they have the complete history of my car on their computer and they have experience fixing 2003 Toyota Tacomas. They treat me professionally, provide a free shuttle to work and I believe they do quality work.
THE GOOD... I'm having some sporadic issues with some gear grinding when trying to shift into 4th gear. I've discussed it with a coworker who's an expert with cars and also discussed it with the service people at Riverview Toyota. Both assess the issue the same. Riverview was able to give me a good range of costs if I do seek to get it fixed in the future should the issue become worse. For the time being, it's a minor issue and something to keep an eye on. I do appreciate Riverview taking the time to explain the technical details of what's likely going on and how the manual transmission works.
THE BAD... They didn't give me a complimentary car wash after spending $1,484 on repairs yesterday. They've always provided this on all prior visits. I still have bird poop on my hood.
THE VERY BAD... This is the reason they get 3 stars and not 5 stars. I received a phone call today from Riverview Toyota Sales in trying to sell me a new car. This is a conflict of interest and gives me concern about whether the Service Department is working in my best interest or the Sales Department's best interest. When I take my car in for service, I expect Riverview Toyota to give me a high quality of service. I don't expect Riverview Toyota to take my service as a means to try to sell me a new car. It's a conflict of interest. Sales doesn't want me to bring my car in for service. Would Service purposely do a bad job or over-quote the job to try to help Sales? I've decided that I won't buy my next vehicle from Riverview Toyota just to keep the Sales away from the service of my vehicle and will state this to them the next time I have service done on my truck. Seriously, Sales shouldn't be using Service as a means to sell cars.
