  • Brought my dad here for the first time. We waited approx 30-45 minutes in the triage before he got called in. The admitting/entrance was clean and parking was close. The security personnel that greeted us was kind and ran us down the sign in process. She was helpful. In the room, the nurse didn't even introduce her name to us and didn't raise my dad's head of bed to help him maintain a comfortable state. When I came in he was lying flat on the bed when he was already having some difficulty of breathing because of his pain and abd problem. She also didn't give him the remote or instructed him on how to call her in case he needed her. His call light was about 4-5 feet away, close to the sink. And the side rails were all down (which I didn't mind since I know he's not a fall risk). I work in the medical field and another HCA facility so I made my dad comfortable myself without complaining. She also didn't update us as to what was going on or the plan of care. I had to ask her if the doctor ordered specific types of tests appropriate for the presenting symptoms. She didn't even smile and gave off the feel that she didn't want to be working that day. She didnt even "scrub the hub" or flush the IV when she gave him an IV med. From what I saw, she only threw the needle in the sharps container and the syringes in the regular garbage can. She disappeared for 2 hours and it was the volunteer that brought to our attention that it was shift change. For a hospital that claimed to recently have won best hospital in the valley by review journal, I was kind of expecting more regarding quality and patient satisfaction. The volunteer (I think he was a volunteer) was nice and came to our room like 3 times in the entire 3.5 hours to see if we needed something. The evening nurse was nice also. She came in the room with a smile on her face, a welcoming aura, introduced herself, told us the situation and the plan of care. When it was time for discharge, she went over the paperwork and when i asked her for copies of certain tests she came back as soon as possible.
