My wife and I have started frequenting Mill Ave for restaurants that offer something different. Rula Bula fits that bill.
We are always down for something new - so I tried the Shepard's Pie. It was really tasty - even if it was made with beef instead of lamb. It really reminded me of food that my mother made when I was growing up - except that it was more polished. I really did like it.
My wife really enjoyed her entree as well. I don't recall what it's called, but it was basically stewed beef served in potato (pan)cakes. She shared with me and I really enjoyed it as well. Both entrees came with broccoli, which I welcome over fries, every day.
It was at the high end of what I would pay for good, fresh-made, basic home cooking.
Finally, I had no idea that the place had a large patio out back. I have always seen it from Mill - where it looks small. But once inside, you see that Rula has two personalities - one is a family restaurant and the other is a college bar. I think they co-exist well here.
