  • This last stay at the Windmill Inn was anything but restful. I checked in after midnight. I didn't like the room I was assigned to on the ground floor, after seeing a person in the hall that had previously been arrested for breaking into guests cars. The next day the police were investigating the room across the hall from my room, which now was on the second floor. I heard that the bad guys were handcuffed and left through the front doors. Unsavory characters roam the halls at night. Beware. Additionally, I had rented an event room for a special event and the wrong room was set up. I would have had to pay additional money to have them switch the set up to the room I toured when considering the event room. I expected the agreement would have reflected the correct room, but it didn't. So, while I did initial the room - being out of the area - it was the wrong info entered by the staff. I had a note slipped under my door notifying me that there would be no water from 10am to 5-6pm as they needed to work on the boiler in order to have hot water. As it turned out, there was no hot water that night - a cold shower had to suffice - no discount for the lack of hot! While walking to my room on the second floor from the elevator at the back of the hotel, my foot got caught in the rug which has a tear in it and almost went head over tea kettle! The last day of my stay here, my air conditioner started leaking. I put a garbage receptacle under it to catch the drips. A relative staying in another room had to change rooms because it the air conditioner didn't work. They don't air condition the hallway or elevator so as soon as you leave your room, you're sweating like crazy. In addition, the new owners have implemented all control over the air conditioning in the guest rooms, for example, the room temperature is in the mid to upper 70's at night. So, trying to adjust the temperature in your room - forget it! They explained that there is some kind of temperature sensor on the roof and they set the a/c to be 10+ degrees above that. Thank you to the hospitality staff and the lady in the breakfast room - they consistently take care of guests. Worrying about safety, wrinkled & torn carpet, and while they've updated their TV & cable - they've left out many good channels, i.e. The Weather Channel, HGTV, PBS. This property is in need of a complete over haul. It's a nice location but not worth the hassles which have become too numerous in the past year.
