  • Ruined my 14kt gold watch by mangling the back and, I found out ruining the movement, during a routine battery change! Eddie isn't the owner anymore and the new owner is a crook. I took my wristwatch (that I have had for 20 years) to get a new battery from Eddie. Eddie sold the place so the new owner changed the battery. His assistant brought the watch over afterwards and I handed him the $5 for the cost of the service. He took it, but hesitated. He then commented that the owner had trouble removing the back of the watch and showed me the back which was now badly mangled. When I expressed my outrage, the owner overheard and said it wasn't his fault because whoever had replaced the previous battery had glued the back on. I told him that Eddie had changed the battery the previous three times I had it done. So what did he do? He insisted on blaming Eddie! Look at all of the positive reviews - they ALL mention Eddie. I said that he should have consulted me before damaging the back and he seemed very annoyed with me, but told me to leave the watch and he'd fix it. When I returned to get the watch a week later, he presented me with a $60 bill from the jeweler that repaired it!!! I told him I had given him a pristine watch that only needed a battery and suddenly he insisted that the back was mangled when I brought it in! I just told him that was unacceptable and held firm so he finally told me - what a stand-up guy - that I wouldn't have to reimburse him. Then he asked me for another $5 for the battery. I told him I had already paid and he started telling me that I didn't. His assistant took the money - he didn't. I just walked out. When I got home, I tried to set the time, and the interior part of the watch moved with the stem making it impossible to set. Obviously, the wrong back had been put on so the mechanism was no longer securely set in the watch!! Anyone who has had a battery put in a watch knows that the person doing so sets the time before returning it. So he knew it was ruined and didn't care. I took it into Gemtime Watch & Jewelry Repair (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) and it turns out the reason the stem appeared to be loose was the movement had been switched out for a movement that was too small for my watch!!! I had been going to Eddie for years and my fiancĂ©, who's a collector, had been going to him for a decade. The new owner is a liar and a crook. Make sure you take a look at all the positive reviews, because they all mention Eddie. And this guy is most definitely not Eddie.
