  • I just finished eating an apricot croissant from Blackbird and I'm really sad. Not because the croissant is gone (well, ok, maybe a little bit) but because today was the first time I've tried anything from Blackbird Baking Company! I've been missing so much!! The actual store is just fine. Large parking lot, easy in and out. I liked that I could see bakers busily baking while waiting for my turn (and they distracted me from actually considering buying one of everything - breadaholic that I am). I didn't go into the seating area and really didn't pay much attention to it but there were a few people sitting in there and they seemed content. The service was also just fine. Maybe could have been a bit friendlier but that's not necessary as the counter service person was efficient and pleasant enough. My goodies were handled carefully and packaged intelligently. Now the good stuff....the FOOD! I was really hungry and so everything looked good. I got a caramelized onion and blue cheese focaccia, a french batard, sticky buns, and an apricot croissant. I just had to taste the focaccia right away so as soon as I got to my car, I snuck a piece (feeling like a guilty little bugger). It was so flavorful and delish that I could not wait to get home and have an honest to goodness hunk of focaccia. And that is just what I did....rushed home and had more! I'm an onion freak and this bread had just enough. I will definitely have this again. A little bit later, I took a little nibble of the sticky bun. I am sitting here thinking about how delightful it will be to eat the rest. Yum. The apricot croissant was supposed to be for breakfast but I couldn't resist and just devoured it. Does it taste like the croissant I was eating almost every day in France last year? Not really. Does that matter? Not at all. Why? Because it was so good for exactly what it was that I don't care about the French right now. And I don't feel bad for eating my breakfast as a midnight snack. Not a bit. I haven't touched the batard yet but it looks and smells delicious. I gave the family some sticky buns and I'm anxious to hear what they think.....which I am sure will be something along the lines of love. I can't wait to go back and to try more. I love the idea of supporting a local establishment. I love the story of Tom and Adria Clark (see the website "about us"). And I love that they supply bread to one of my favorite Cleveland restaurants, Flying Fig. I'm really really glad I don't live down the street......
