It was my BFF's wedding, and for a wedding gift, I wanted to get her a Trash the Dress photo shoot at the Neon Boneyard. She had found a photographer back in April, and I had messaged the photographer with very intermittant responses. Knowing how busy and hectic a photog's schedule can be, I tried to be patient and flexible.
Fast forward to September (the wedding was to be in the beginning of November), and not having gotten final confirmation from the photog, I started to panic. In my usual obsessive "can't trust anyone" mindframe, I went about to search for a back up photog in case the original one flaked out.
Man, was I SO GLAD I DID, because the original photog flaked out...but I think it was fate, because Mike at Glitter Lens was SO FREAKING AMAZING I can't imagine having this photo session with any one else.
To start with, he was always insanely prompt on calling me back and responding to emails (believe me, I worked with many photogs and artists in the past - promptness is a quality to admire in the creative field). Not only was we prompt (and polite), but he was able to make my BFF's Trash the Dress photo session come true! He navigated the crazy forms and requirements from the Neon Boneyard (OK, they weren't THAT insane, but they were pretty daunting). Was totally reasonable about payment.
But the best part? On the morning of the photo session, he even called to confirm the shoot time, went over some things he wanted to know, and when we showed up to the shoot (a little early)...he was already there! YES!
And the photos? My BFF loves them! YAY! I love my BFF and she really asks for so little. She didn't have a big wedding (as evidenced by the Vegas wedding), and is pretty laid back about everything. So that I could give her (and her husband) this present, means so much to me! YAY for Mike.
OK. I lied. The SUPER best part? After the photo session, I was about to call for a cab to come pick us up...and Mike told us not to bother and instead, drove us (through annoying crazy Strip traffic) to our hotel!!! HOW AMAZINGLY NICE IS THAT???
Yeah, I'm raving a little, but only because I'm so used to dealing with flakey vendors (yeah, I'm still a little sore at the first photog that still hasn't responded to the last round of emails...from September), that I'm glad that I found someone that is so competent and professional.
Now, if you read any of my reviews, you know that I usually don't mention names...my feeling has always been that a business is as strong as their weakest employee - and that my experience should be the same no matter if I'm talking to Joe or Paul or Sally. However, as the quality of a photo really depends on the photographer (it's a creative eye thing - and not a basic customer service thing), I have to say that if you're going to use Glitter Lens, try to ask for Mike Hewitt. His photos were pretty awesome, he was insanely professional and nice...and you know what? The photo session was actually fun! My BFF is used to the camera but her husband is a little more shy - and Mike was even able to coax a few smiles out of him! That should be an extra star!
So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Mike and Glitter Lens for making my present to my BFF such a hit! You really don't know what it means to me :)
