  • I've been to both their new Lawrenceville location and their Shadyside location many times, but sadly this studio is one of my least favorites in the city. I really, really want to like this place because it's one of the few vinyasa yoga studio's in Lawrenceville, and I have some friends that teach/taught here, but I just can't get into the style of yoga that's taught here. This is the hottest studio I've been too in the city, sometimes the Shadyside location gets too hot for me and I like a fairly hot studio. It's also the fastest, most "power" yoga studio that I've been too. My biggest gripe with the classes is that they go through the flows SO FAST, that there's little to no holding poses at times, and it seems like a really good way to do the poses improperly. I consider myself an intermediate yogi, and a lot of times I haven't even flowed into a pose before they're onto the next one. A lot of the teachers do tell you to go at your own pace, however most students I see try to keep up. I like a bit of time to get into each pose and sit with it, their style of teaching feels more like "how fast can I flow through these poses." I've had other friends say the same things about the fast pace of the studio. It's definitely a workout, but depending on the instructor, it usually lacks a lot of the reflection and yoga philosophy/substance. My other gripe about Amazing Yoga is that almost every class there is exactly the same. Same flows, same sequences, with some slight variation. That might be good for someone new to yoga, but I'm not sure how you expand/advance your practice when you're doing the same thing for every class. They also usually have an ab portion, which I've never seen in yoga before. There is little to no hands on assisting by most teachers, not many modifications are given other than sometimes some more advanced ones. A lot of the instructors are very nice, the owners are super nice, but I just wish they offered some more variety. It's not my favorite studio, but I will sometimes stop in due to the convenience of their location in proximity to my apartment. Other things to note: Neither location provides towels. The Shadyside location has tape marks on the floor to guide you on where to place your mat. (I don't mind this, but I know some who do) The Shadyside classes get really full, so come early if you like to practice in a certain row. They have a work exchange program you can take advantage of to get free classes. They also have new student specials, I think $25 for 2 weeks of unlimited classes. They also have $8 cash drop-in classes for when new instructors/instructors in training are teaching.
