  • This is my favorite bike shop in Pittsburgh. Everyone who works here is very knowledgeable and nice. Most bike shops make you choose between helpfulness and expertise. Thick Bikes is the exception that proves the rule. I brought by bike in yesterday and asked to have them check my disc brakes, order a new hood for the shifter, and tune the front derailleur. The mechanic was so honest that he fixed my derailleur in a matter of minutes and explained that my brake pads and hood did not need to be replaced. At no point did I feel like someone was trying to sell me something I didn't need. Some bike shops (read: Performance) harass and upsell you until you're walking out of the store with a sack full of needless accessories. Again, Thick Bikes does things differently. The owner thoughtfully recommended certain products that reflected the fact that he too is a cyclist. When I had chosen a jersey off the rack to purchase, he switched it out for a brand new one that was still in the box it was shipped in. This store has bikes spanning all price ranges, from a few hundred dollars to ten thousand. The labor is very reasonably priced.
