| - I lived in Charlotte for a couple of years, and have since relocated back to Boston. I was recently back in Charlotte for a wedding, and decided to stay at Aloft in the Epicenter. I was very familiar with the area, so I had no problem finding the hotel. The lobby was on the 5th floor, which is different, but man is it beautiful. The lobby is spacious, with each "room" holding something different - a pool table, bar, computer work stations, a 24/7 kitchen type area where you can purchase food any time, day or night. I arrived a little early and was hoping to check in early since the wedding was on the early side - not a problem! Room ended up being on the 14th floor, and I'm pretty sure 15 is the top. The room overlooked the Epicenter, with the Time Warner Cable arena in view also. This hotel and its rooms are so modern and trendy - flat screen tv mounted on the wall with a chaise lounge underneath, 2 desks, king size bed. One thing that was new to me was the way the bathroom was set up - the sink and mirrors were opposite where you could hang your clothes, the coffee/water cart - all wide open. Next to that was the toilet, and the door that closes you off from the rest of the room is a little sliding door. Past that is the glass door shower, with an amazing shower head, shampoo/conditioner and body wash dispensers mounted to the wall (so you can't steal them, darn!), and a small sample of Bliss Spa body lotion and hand soap. The price wasn't too expensive either, for what I was originally expecting! One major downfall - no room service. Yes, they have the 24/7 food area downstairs, but when I get back to my room, I don't want to have to walk back downstairs (lazy, I know).
One thing to note if you are coming into town on a weekend - because this hotel is attached to the Epicenter, you will hear music and the bass beats from the clubs right there (Suite, Kazba, etc) all night long.
