| - I first encountered this spot back in 2011 after visiting Montreal in the summer and looking for a sports bar with cheap beer and a large patio. La Station des Sports offered both of these things and I fell totally in love with the place. You could order a double pitcher of Keith's (120 ounces) for just $16.00. I had never been able to find such a good deal in my entire life.
I typically visit Montreal twice a year and I made a point to visit this place EVERY time I was in town. I actually fell in love with it so much that I started choosing my accommodation based on the walking distance to this bar. It sounds crazy but we considered it "our spot".
I say "loved" now with a heavy heart. Sadly, the past four or five visits to this restaurant have confirmed the declining quality of the place and I could not be more disappointed. Every time I came back after the first couple years of visiting, I noticed that the prices of their food and alcohol seemed to creep a little bit higher. A 120 ounce pitcher of Keith's now costs $30.50 - almost double what it was five years ago. All of their food items have substantially increased in price as well - their pizza used to be around $6.00 - now it's hovering around $12.00. I also find that the quality of the food has rapidly declined. We ordered calamari and it tasted like someone had doused a rubber band in oil and put it on a plate :-( On my recent visit two days ago I ordered nachos which were okay but not great. My boyfriend complained that his burger was thoroughly overdone and his fries were cold.
Two years ago I came here in the summer to find that their lovely outdoor patio was completely gone due to renovations. They said it would be reintroduced once the renovations were complete. I visited again a few months later, and it was still under construction. Granted, they do have their patio open again, but this was a huge disappointment for me.
Service has always been good, so no complaints there. They also have a ton of TV sets and it really is a fun place to watch any games or sporting events. That's where the positive things end though, really. If you're looking for decent food, look elsewhere.
If you've also been coming here for years, perhaps you will understand my struggle. Although in the past, this place would've gotten five stars from me, I have no choice but to give it a three star rating today. To be honest, that's really being generous, and it would've likely gotten a two star rating had my nostalgia not kicked in midway through this review.
It is with great regret now that I say goodbye to this place and begin the search for a new spot in Montreal.
